Cafe Snesko is famous for lighting their bar on fire and patron singalongs. This bar was recommended by my friend’s snowboard instructor. We were told we needed to get there before 5pm. The first time we tried to get in, we showed up at 5:30pm. So we just stood outside listening to the music for a bit, but ended up giving up and heading over to Le Monde. The next time we we made to sure to arrive promptly before 5pm, and we were ushered in. So, moral of the story is when I say there is a strict schedule in the après ski parties in Val Thorens, I’m serious!
Where is Cafe Snesko located?
Cafe Snesko is located in Val Thorens on Rue de Gebroulaz. But everyone calls this the “Rue de la Soif”, which roughly translates to “thirty row”. This area has many bars lined up, and get extremely loud once everyone is down from the slopes.
What are popular times and days to go to Cafe Snesko?
Cafe Snesko is popular everyday in Val Thorens but around 5-8pm. The place is quite small, so it’ll fill up quickly. You should aim to be here before 4:30pm to guarantee getting in. I think when they were under Covid restrictions, it was almost impossible to get into if you didn’t line up before 4pm.
Will they ID me and check my bags?
There is security at the door that checks your identification and to control the crowd.
Is there a coat check?
I don’t remember a coat check, but it was quite warm with all the body heat. I believe I just put my coat on a hook on the wall.
What is the vibe and music?
Its a very dark, cramped bar, with many of the patrons standing on the tables to see the band up front. Of course this was before COVID, back in January of 2020, so it could have been different in the past few years. The music is a live band that everyone sings along to. Think “Hey Jude” and “Angels”. Music reminds me of the type of apres you see in Vermont, except packed in like a NYC subway car during rush hour! Not my vibe, but fun to check out.
How much do drinks cost?
The bar was very crowded, so I was unable to move from my post on top of the table to buy any drinks. There is picture of the drink menu on Google maps that shows prices from 2020, so add Euro or two from these prices for inflation:
1/4 L beer – 4 Euro, 1/2 L beer – 6.5 Euro
1/4 L drink – 8 Euro, 1/2 L drink – 15 Euro
1 shot – 3.5 Euro, 10 shots – 30 Euro
Also saw a note stating they don’t charge under a credit card under 10 euro, so make sure you have cash or just buy more drinks!
Is there a charge for the restrooms?
I didn’t use the restroom while I was there. This bar is most popular for only a couple hours before dinner, so I would just leave if I felt the need to go.
